Every diesel injection pump that comes through the Welham Diesel workshop needs to leave operating as it should. Reconditioning the pump is only part of the process. Once the work is complete, the final testing stage gives us the opportunity to check everything is working correctly before the pump heads back to the customer.
Recently, we had something a little different in the workshop: an American Bosch 6-cylinder injection pump.
It’s not a type of pump we usually work on, which made this one particularly interesting. The pump came from an American tank transporter, giving the team the chance to work on a piece of equipment that is a little outside the usual tractors and machinery we regularly see at Welham Diesel.
The Final Stage of Reconditioning
After the pump had been reconditioned, it was fitted to the test bench for a quick run-up.
This final test is an important part of the process. It allows us to see how the pump performs under controlled conditions and check that it is operating correctly following the work carried out.
Rather than simply rebuilding a pump and assuming everything is right, testing provides the opportunity to identify any issues before it leaves the workshop.
Why Test a Finished Injection Pump?
A diesel injection pump has to deliver fuel accurately and consistently across each cylinder. Even small differences can have an impact on how an engine starts, runs and performs.
Running a completed pump on the test bench allows us to check its operation and make sure the reconditioning work has produced the result we are looking for.
For this American Bosch pump, it was a straightforward final run-up to make sure everything was behaving as expected before it was signed off.
Something Different in the Welham Workshop
We don’t usually see many American Bosch pumps like this one, and certainly not many that have come from an American tank transporter.
That variety is one of the interesting parts of working with older diesel equipment. You never quite know what is going to arrive through the workshop doors next.
From familiar agricultural injection pumps to something a little more unusual, the same principle applies: inspect it properly, recondition it carefully and test it before it leaves.
You can see the American Bosch 6-cylinder pump having its final run-up on the Welham Diesel test bench in our latest workshop video.
Importance of Quality Diesel Fuel Injectors
Using high-quality diesel fuel injectors is crucial for maintaining optimal engine performance and reliability. Low-quality or counterfeit diesel fuel injectors can lead to poor fuel atomisation, increased wear and tear on the engine, and potential damage. Investing in genuine or reputable diesel fuel injectors ensures long-lasting performance and minimises the risk of engine problems.
Diesel fuel injectors are vital for the proper functioning of diesel engines. They ensure precise fuel delivery, combustion efficiency, and overall performance. Regular fuel injection service and proper diagnosis of diesel fuel injectors are essential for maintaining their performance.
Choosing high-quality fuel injectors also plays a crucial role in ensuring the longevity and reliability of your diesel engine.
